Antech Solo PC

In this article I will describe a PC that I have update recently. This PC is for games and office work and is using RAID 0 and Samsung SSD for performance.

I will focus on computer case and explain several good features and some issues that I have using this case. It is interesting to see how this computer case aged and how good it is now after several years of use.

This is my Nova computer:

Antech go Solo ATX mid tower computer case. It is not Solo II so it is an older computer case that I have bought with $120 from Microelectronics Chicago.

This is the computer used by my wife for business and games. As you can see the computer case is very polished and the paint is high quality very resilient and hard to scratch.

The front of the computer is aluminum and is very easy to clean. It is good looking after years of use.

This computer case has 4 places of 5" where you can install things. I have used them to install one backup disk of 2.5". Vantech memory card reader front panel with HDD 2 drawers.

Unreliable Buttons

The start button and the reset button both have been broken and are hard to repair.

I had removed the reset button completely so now there is a black hole instead of the reset button.

I have fix the start button using a wire spring that fit into the back of the button.

Power Supply

This computer case comes with 380W power supply that was very good for a business PC but was difficult to find a good video card that uses less power. I have used a MSI Radeon 7770 that is not very powerful for games. However we play SWTOR on-line and it perform well.

The power supply is installed on top. It is good that all cables are close by to the motherboard but I think it is a little bit of clutter. I prefer the bottom for the power supply.

Front Filters

This computer case has 2 front filters. This is very unusual for a mid tower computer case so old. I find filters hard to reach and therefore difficult to clean.
The computer do not have a front door but a plastic and aluminum mask difficult to remove. You have to open the entire computer case to be able to clean the filters.
However this is better then no filters at all. Behind the filters you can install intake 92 mm fans.

Intake fans

This computer case have 3 places to install additional cooling fans that are very welcome for gaming. I have installed 2 intake fans in the front and one exhaust fan in the back.

The upper fan was a little to high so I was unable to add additional filters in the back of the fans.

Too bad the filters are not very good so it does not do any good to filter the air in the room.

Missing Back Filter

This computer case is built for positive inside pressure. If you use only exhaust fans and you do not install the front intake fans then you will have negative preasure and much more dust inside the computer case.
There are many small holes in the back used for air output. If you are not sure you have positive pressure inside the case you can glue a small filter that you can find in home improvement store for air purifiers for 5 dollars. I have used a peace of sponge that I have cut from motherboard wrapping found in the box.

HDD drawers and rails

This computer case is quiet. It uses the rubber washers and special screws for HDD mount. The drawers are easy to install and work properly. However they add weight to the computer case.

The 5" mounting system is based on plastic rails that are very hard to use and are not well designed. I had lots of problems using this system. It is similar to P180 computer case rail system and have similar problems.

Some 5" devices are impossible to install in this computer case because it is a screw less system. All 5" devices must be rigid and not flexible like some HDD drawers that you can find in store.

Final impression

I like this computer case because is solid and quiet. However I do not recommend this computer case for your next PC. It has a bad design and hidden defects. Do not worth spending your money for it.
