Internet Tip : Configuring the DNS to Speed Up the Internet

DNS stands for Domain Name Server. It is an internet equivalent of our phone book. It maintains a directory of Domain Names and translates them into Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. The Internet only recognises IP address and is dependent on the DNS to convert Domain Names into IP Addresses.

By default, the chosen DNS will be the Internet Service Provider (ISP)'s phonebook. Some experts claim that this phonebook is not powerful enough and needs slightly longer to translate Domain Names to IP Addresses. Hence slowing down the internet speed for the average user.

This is extremely crucial for me as I am on a 100 MB data plan with the "green pipe". Any small loss would mean a much slower surfing experience for me and my family.

and for this you have to pay some charges , in India monthly charges for Internets are high like for 1Mbps you have to pay Rs 1500/- in some parts of india though there is a competition in cities because of many internet providers as they provides for much lower costs. but in rural areas for 1Mbps i have to pay here 1800. OK lets get to the point.

you have internet connection at home you have connected it to your router so that you can use it on moobiles and your laptops. and you also want to share your wifi connection with your friends but in limit bandwidth so that you can get efficient wifi speed for your devices.

to do the traffic shaping of your wifi router you just have to follow some steps:-

1. you have to open your router homepage and need to login into the same.( am using DIGISOL router)
2. then you need to go to Active Client Table and want to see how much devices are actually connected to your router.
3. then you have to click on Advanced >QoS setup.
4. there will be 2 options Total bandwidth that's UPSTREAM and DOWN STREAM. you have to enter your connection speed (for ex- supppose you have 1 Mbps then you have to enter 1000 up stream and 1000 down stream) and click on apply.
5. now you have to add the IP address of the friends phones of whom you want to control the wifi speed/wifi bandwidth.
6. you have to enter for each IP address separately.
